ETIQUETTE & DOJO DO'S AND DON'TS
✔️ DO:
Bow when stepping on and off the mat—this shows respect for the space, your instructors, and fellow judoka.
Listen when Sensei is giving instruction. Show attention and respect at all times.
Keep your Gi clean and in good condition. No rips, strong odors, or grime.
Keep fingernails and toenails short, neat, and clean to prevent injuries.
Long hair should be pulled back into a ponytail and away from your face.
Show good sportsmanship—win or lose, we bow with respect.
❌ DON’T:
No jewelry, earrings, watches, or visible piercings on the mat. These can cause injury.
No electronic devices on or near the mat. Leave phones and tablets off to the side.
No disrespectful behavior, swearing, or roughhousing outside of instruction.
GI CARE & HYGIENE
Your Gi must be clean and free of foul odors or visible stains.
No visible tears or holes. A torn Gi is unsafe and should be repaired or replaced.
Wash your Gi after each class, preferably in cold water and hang-dry to extend its life.
We recommend adding Kirkland Oxi Booster or something similar to your regular laundry routine—it works really well to keep your Gi clean and smelling fresh!
DO NOT wash your obi (belt).
Remember: personal hygiene is part of your training!
TIPS FOR NEW JUDOKA
Arrive early so you're dressed and ready before class starts.
If you’re late, bow in quietly and respectfully—then wait for Sensei’s signal to join.
Ask questions if you’re unsure—everyone starts somewhere.
Be patient with yourself. Judo takes time, effort, and respect.
Stay hydrated and bring water (for off the mat).
